Yes! Rentastic now offers a “Classification Rules” feature for premium members. This gives users the ability to set up rules for common or recurring transactions, preventing you from needing to manually categorize these transactions over and over again.
Warning: Please keep in mind that misconfigured transaction rules can have detrimental effects to your account and transaction data. Always be sure to preview your rule before saving.
Warning: It’s possible for a rule to conflict with or overwrite transactions auto-configured with another classification rule. Be careful when configuring multiple similar rules.
Note: Rules are applied thrice per day. If you’ve recently added transactions, or recently created a rule, and are not seeing the correct classifications, please be patient and your transactions will be updated shortly.
To create a new transaction rule:
- Select “Classification Rules” from the “Transaction” sub menu.
- From here, you’ll see a list of all previously-configured rules. If this is your first time setting up a rule, you’ll be greeted with this screen. Click “Create Rule”.
- Enter a name for the Rule, for example “Utilities”.
- From here, you can select from different criteria to narrow down your transaction data. For example, if you have a recurring transaction that always occurs on the 26th of the month, you can select “26th” from the “day of month” dropdown. You can also filter by transaction name, or dollar amount.
- Once you’ve configured the transaction criteria, you can then choose which property and category to apply the transactions to. Additionally, you can also configure the date for which the rule will begin applying to your transactions.
- Finally, once all fields are filled out to your liking, we highly recommend previewing your transaction rule first, to see which transactions your selected criteria will apply to. You cannot Save your new rule until you’ve previewed the rule at least once. You’ll likely need to adjust a few criteria to include or exclude some transactions first that were included unexpectedly.
- Once everything looks correct and to your liking, click “Save Rule”.
- All set!
